Notes on an interview with Peter (Pian) Jones of Moel-y-crio, Halkyn, on 20th January 1980. Peter Jones started work at surface at the age of fourteen at East Halkyn in 1904. He later worked at Rhosesmor, which had been taken over by the East Halkyn company. In the First World War Mr Jones served on the Western Front as a driver; and later worked for some years at Courtaulds' Aber Works, Flint. He returned to the mines in 1929 when Halkyn District United Mines started, and worked on the sinking of Pen-y-bryn Shaft on Halkyn Mountain. His recollections give details of working in the mines, working conditions and recollections of employers and colleagues. Electronic copy only (MS Word document).
