Scope and Content

/1 5 Nov. 1824, asks for information about the Lit and Phil; his health has improved, and he has bought a property at Richmond, close to London, to which he invites Dalton Dated at Stanmore Hill (Middlesex).

/2 7 Dec. 1826 (damaged with loss of text), congratulates Dalton on his Royal Society gold medal. Dated at: London

/3 n.d. [c. 1826] his election to Royal Society, plans to submit a paper to the Society.

/4 9 Sep 1828, , describes his house in Maida Vale, and says Dalton is welcome to visit. Dated at Maida Vale, London.

/5 6 March 1832 thanks for a copy of Lit and Phil memoirs, discusses bird migration, chemical experiments, and circulation in the body; says because of ill-health, cannot attend Royal Society meetings. Dated at Richmond Green (Surrey).

/6 22 Sep 1827 (damaged with text loss) has asked publisher to send him copy of vol 2 of The new system..., "agreeably surprized" to receive the dedication; describes his life in London. Dated at: London

Administrative / Biographical History

Sharpe (c.1769-1834) was a Manchester solicitor and friend of Dalton, who later moved to London. Vol. 2 of A new system of chemical philosophy was dedicated to Sharpe; the 1827 letter acknowledges this dedication.
