Scope and Content

Dalton refers to an exchange of journals and meteorological apparatus. He also discusses how he makes tidal measurements, and the influence of tides on the weather and possibly also on the Aurora Borealis: "A phenomenon which has baffled the sagacity of the last and present age..." He expresses disappointment with some new thermometers. He also discusses issue of how to set a barometers, and mentions a dispute over the height of Skiddaw. Crosthwaite was a friend of Dalton and ran a museum in Kendal.
