Scope and Content

This is a collection of comic books, annuals, scripts, and books on comics gifted by various locals. It spans from Punch magazine in 1895 to modern single issue UK comics like 2000 AD and the Beano. While they are mostly English language comics, there are European language comics as well. Custodial History

The collection has been put together by the English Department as part of its Comics programme to be used by students on its undergraduate modules and its MLitt / MDes in Comics Studies. Punch magazines donated by Stephanie Wolfe Murray, founder of Canongate books. 2000AD purchased by English and Archives from John Gardner formerly of the University's Research and Innovation Services, Scottish Cartoonist Douglas Noble, and Scott Montgomery from DC Thomson's Commando Office from their move. European language comics had been kept at DC Thomson Archives, although not created by DC Thomson. Given to depositor (Chris Murray) during a rationalisation. Gifts and purchased arranged by Prof Chris Murray. The Bunty was a comic included in Peter Hansen purchased a range of art work from DC Thomson in 2003. The DC Thomson stationary was given to Chris Murray for the archive. Old British comics and annuals donated by Morris Heggie of DC Thomson, various issues of Commando and Dandy, Beezer, and Jackie donated by DC Thomson Commando Office.
