Horse-drawn carriages, some with the names of local businesses on them, in a procession watched by crowds of people on Llandundo promenade. 'Flags of different kinds are flying. The people in the front carriage are holding [silver] trophies.
The original catalogue entry transferred from Gwynedd Archives included the following: 'Taplin's horses and carriages 1889 in Llandudno'. Possibly a May Day event.'
Although Josiah Taplen appears in a Trade Directory of 1890 as a Carriage Hirer, there is no obvious identification with anyone in this scene. The Taplin family are connected to the Searells.
It is unlikely to be a May Day procession but may be associated with a celebration of the British Empire [judging by flags] or a sporting event, possibly horse racing?
On the back is written 'Beavan Searell, 1901, 1906'.
