Edward Tennyson Smith (1850-1925) was an extreme temperance campaigner from Birmingham who married a local girl, Annie Euphemia Searell, whose family had originated in Devon but came to North Wales to work in the copper and slate industries. Together the Tennyson Smiths toured Britain, America and New Zealand, campaigning for the prohibition of alcohol, until her death in America in 1906. ETS subsequently remarried.
