Scope and Content

Two letters from the depositor containing reminiscences of the foundry which was operated by her Great-Grandfather and his brother and then by her Great-Uncles, from c.1860 until the late nineteenth century. Enclosed with the letters are modern copies of two photographs of Mr. and Mrs. T. Jones and his brother, known as "Nuncul", the proprietors. Mrs. Back also enclosed a colour photograph of the Dyfed Archaeological Trust~ dig for roman ruins behind 110 Priory Street [in progress when she visited the site] and one of the front door of no.110. September 1983

Administrative / Biographical History

The Priory Foundry, 110 Priory Street, Carmarthen, was run from c. 1860 to the late 19th century, by Mr T. Jones and his brother, and later by his sons. His great-granddaughter, Mrs I. Back, of Mancot, Deeside, Clwyd, possessed copies of photographs of T. Jones and others, and wrote reminiscences in the 1980s. In 1983, Dyfed Archaeological Trust conducted an excavation of Roman remains behind 110 Priory Street.
