Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
The county of Flintshire falls within the Diocese of St Asaph and consists of over fifty ecclesiastical parishes, including Shotton (originally part of Hawarden parish). The records of individual ecclesiastical parishes in Flintshire include registers of baptisms, marriages and burials, as well as records of the churchwardens and Parochial Church Councils, parish charities, schools, clubs and societies. Parish records were deposited at the Clwyd Record Office, following an agreement of 1976 between the Church in Wales and the Welsh County Councils. The parish of Shotton was created in 1921, from parts of the townships of Shotton, Aston, Sealand and Saltney; all of which had been in the parish of Hawarden until that time.
Arrangement
Arranged into six groups, by deposit: Groups One to Three, incumbent records; Group Four, incumbent records, churchwarden's records, Parochial Church Council records, records of church affairs, and records of church organisations; and Group Five, marriage register; Group Six, Incumbent, Parochial Church Council, Easter Vestry and Church Affairs.
