Bills of sale for shares in various Liverpool based vessels purchased by Edward Caird, including 'Hartfell', 'Nagpore', 'Mysore' and others.

Administrative / Biographical History

Edward Caird was born in Montrose in 1806. He founded Caird (Dundee) Ltd in 1832. His son, James Key Caird took over the business in 1870 and was a noted benefactor; between 1895 and 1914 he gave £240,940 in donations to institutions and organisations within and outside Dundee, and was awarded a baronetcy in 1913. Edward Caird died in 1889.
