Scope and Content

It corresponds roughly to p.p. 1-332 in the Dublin edition. At the end of the ms. is a "Cowydd Mawrnadd yr Urddasol Hyfforddiadwr i'r Nefoedd sef y parchedicaf Mr Henry Rowlands o'r Plas Gwyn yr hwn a Madawod ar bywyd tangciedig hwn ag a hunodd yng Rhist 21 dudd or MysHudref yn y flwyddyn 1723 ai wraig ef (sef Mrs rowlands) & fu farw y 12 dud or un mis ynr un flwyddyn 1723".

There is no doubt the cywyddwr (Richard Edwards, bardd) is referring to the author of Mona Antiqua....

Ni cheir mwy ochor Mon

Na llyfre nsg ache ar goedd

Na hanesion hen oesoedd....but his

facts are in serious conflict with Mr Griffithss' 'Pedigrees', who says H.R. died 21 'November' 1723 and Mrs Rowlands on 10 'November', '1725' (p. 54).

Towards the end of the cywydd we are told

Dau cant ar bymtheg burdeg ben

A rhagor peder ar higien

pan aeth pleth toreth y tir

wych haeldaith i'r ucheldir.

How does he arrive at 1724? Many leaves bound here and there
