Short coverless book entiled Ancient and Modern (2n edition), printed for private circulation in 1875. Includes a letter from 'Alpha' to the editor of The Morning Post dated 30 March 1875 arguing against the Committee on Privileges' decision to confirm the Aerl of Kellie's claim to the title of Earl of Mar. The book 'has been written in order that those who may hereafter wish for information concerning an eventful period in the history of the Earldom of Mar may be informed of all the matters in dispute'. It summarises the history of the earldom and the family of Mar, and reviews the legal case of 1875. It also includes extracts of letters from the individuals involved, and of relevant legal decrees. There is a loose newspaper cutting from The Times between pp. 62 and 63, dated 1 September 1885..
