Administrative / Biographical History
The Diocesan Save the Churches Fund was established by Archbishop Garbett (1942-1955) to help raise the money for the repair of ancient churches within the diocese of York. The Second World War had lead to the neglect of church repairs and due to post war shortages materials were expensive. The Archbishop appealed to the congregations of churches within the diocese to contribute to a special collection that would go towards the repair of the ancient churches.
