Includes pressed leaf, small sketch of weeping beech tree, list from unidentified newspaper of those attending the Bachelors' Ball and note about the Nightingale Jewel. Notable entries include: (23 Oct) wedding of Miss Depree and William Reeve; (30 Nov) visit of the King of Sardinia to see Queen Victoria; (11 Dec) lecture at the Institution by Mrs Clara Balfour on 'Youthful Poets of the Present Century'; (22 Dec) to Downing for Christmas with Professor and Mrs Fisher in the East Lodge; (17 Jan) The Medical Ball (her first public ball) and (29 Jan) the Bachelor's Ball, in Cambridge; (13 and 27 Feb) saw Fanny Kemble read 'Much Ado About Nothing' and 'Hamlet' and (12 Mar) 'Othello'; (5 and 14 March) Covent Garden Theatre burnt down (after Annie saw 'Professor' Anderson in 'Rob Roy' the previous month; (8 May-3 July) moved to 1 Maid of Honour Row, Richmond Green for two months; (9 May) Grand Peace Fete at the Crystal Palace (21 May) Benedict's Concert at Exeter Hall, including description of Jenny Lind's much admired performance; (29 May) Grand Illuminations to celebrate the Queen's birthday and the Peace [Crimean War]; (18 June) Grand Fete for the opening of the Crystal Palace Fountains; (26 June) opening of the new building at the Orthopaedic Hospital in Hanover Square by Prince Albert, its patron, with description of his appearance.
