John Stafford Smith. [A commonplace-book, vellum bound, bearing the initials I.S., probably the grandfather of John Stafford Smith. The recto leaves, from 1 to 42 and 114v to 127v, are in an early 18th century handwriting, probably that of J.S. These contain medical prescriptions, one being said to have been received from his grandfather, i.e. presumably J.S. Smith's grandfather's grandfather as the writing seems to be in the earlier hand. The latest dated prescription is 1751. The remainder of the book is in the handwriting of J.S. Smith, and comprises numerous extracts, notably from ?Chapel Royal registers, and Chantor's Book Westminster, his opinion of authors and composers, and his engagements.] Late 18th century.
