Scope and Content

LETTER: Samuel Gregory, manager, Holyhead Silica Works, to Mr. Evans, sending him information about the brickworks which were acquired by the firm some 30 years ago. Plant for the manufacture of silica bricks was built in 1901. The bricks are f high quality used for fire resisting purposes, including steel and copper smelting furnaces. The annual output is 10,000 tons a year and the workforce numbers 100. A private railway connects the works to Holyhead harbour from where bricks are shipped mainly to ports on the Mersey, in Cumberland and to Glasgow.
