The register gives the name, place of residence and occupation of both parties, often but not always the nature of the goods sold, their value and the date. Part of the records of the Thorne County Court.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Bills of Sale Act, 1878 sought to prevent frauds upon creditors through secret bills of sale of personal effects by debtors, and an amending Act of 1882 allowed for the registration of these bills by the registrar of the county court.
