In 1921, Wood moved to Paris to pursue his artistic career in earnest, encouraged and assisted by Alphonse Kahn. The letters describe his introduction to Parisian society at a high level, particularly through Tony Gandarillas, a Chilean diplomat who was to be Wood's closest friend and travelling companion for the rest of his short life; his drawing classes, and admiration for the work of Adrian Drian, a great influence at this time; his attempts to find a studio, which he did, at 54 Rue des Sts Peres; and his travels to Italy with Tony Gandarillas. Letters written from: London, Paris, Florence, Italy, Lago di Garda (Italy), Florence, Riva, Versailles, and Chelsea (London).
