Scope and Content

This sub sub sub fonds is divided into 3 series as follows:

  • Royal Visitation, certificate of the punishment of the vicar of Brotherton for fornication, 1538. [DRP.RV]
  • Civil War Papers, a miscellaneous bundle of papers of the time of the civil war and two items from the Commonwealth period. The majority of the papers are petitions to the royalist commander William Cavendish, Marquess of Newcastle, from dispossessed royalist incumbents requesting him to put them into possession of benefices deserted by puritan clergy, 1643-1654.   • Records of the Registrar of the Archdeaconry of Doncaster. These papers relate to the fact that Mr H.A. Hudson, the Diocesan Registrar was also Registrar for the Archdeaconry of Doncaster. The records relate mainly to the formal business of archidiaconal visitations and include call books, citation mandates, correspondence & papers, 1915-1937. [DRP.D]

Administrative / Biographical History

The diocesan registry was in possession of many miscellaneous papers relating to a wide range of activities relating to the registrar and the business of the church.
