Scope and Content

This sub sub sub fonds is divided into 2 series as follows:

  • Diocesan Registry accounts, c1576-[ongoing] [DR/ACC]
  • Tables of Fees, 1901-1962 [TF]

Administrative / Biographical History

The Diocesan Registry ran both internal and external financial accounts. Internal accounts related to expenses of the diocesan registry itself, for example, office supplies, maintenance for offices, taxes paid by the registry and fees for work done by those within the registry. External accounts were held for the clergy and members of the public who used the services of the registry and fees were set for certain work done (e.g. visitation, licences, probate etc). Tables of fees were fixed for parishes by the Ecclesiastical Commissioners under the Church Building Acts (from 1818) and subsequent legislation.
