This class of material provides a unique visual record of Nicholson's life, both as man and 'poet' from his childhood to shortly before his death. It includes formal portrait photographs, holiday snaps, informal snaps of himself from childhood upwards, photographs of his wife (both before and during their marriage), as well as shots of the Nicholsons with other people: Nicholson is pictured with fellow poets Ted Hughes (NCN16/4/17), Anne Ridler (NCN16/4/16) and George Every (NCN16/4/15). There are also some photographs relating to Nicholson's work, namely a series of photographs taken at productions of his verse dramas and a bundle of photographs used to illustrate his topographical volume The Lakers.
