The Section was established in 1887 to deal with the academic policy of the Medical School. It was chaired by the Principal, with the dean of the Medical School acting as vice-chairman, and attended by the medical professors and the professors of chemistry, botany, zoology and organic chemistry. The Section dealt with issues of curriculum, teaching, accommodation, allocation of classes, relations with teaching hospitals, General Medical Council and examining bodies. The Section was abolished in late 1904, and most of its functions transferred to the Board of the Faculty of Medicine. The series includes minutes of the meetings of medical academic staff, 1874-1896. These meetings do not appear to have a formal connection to the Medical Section.
