Scope and Content

Scrapbooks compiled by Sir Norman Jeffcoate reflecting his medical and professional career, including menus and invitations from medical dinners, celebrations and events at the RCOG, GVS, North of England Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society, British Medical Assocation, Royal College of Midwives, and at the University of Liverpool, newspaper articles and papers relating to lectures given by him, programmes for conferences and training courses, correspondence with medical peers discussing papers and lectures, photographs, reviews of publications, visits overseas, correspondence about appointment to associations, committees, and societies, and copies of his RCOG President's Letter, and containing in particular discussion of the use of forceps (July 1953), a programme for the Rugby League Final of April 1954 held at Wembley Stadium, the visit to the UK made by the American Gynaecological Club (1954), the offer of a place for his son at St John's College Cambridge (1956), the Order of Ceremony for the visit by the Queen Mother to the RCOG to lay the foundation stone of the new building, discussion of his stance regarding abortion, visit to the Congress of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Venezuala (1960), a report on a visit to Athens made by the Jeffcoates, Sir John Peel, Hugh McLaren, John Stallworthy, John Chassar Moir and R J Kellar (May 1961), a letter from Sir John Stallworthy regarding Jeffcoate's election to Presidency of the RCOG, letter regarding the conferment of a knighthood (1970), discussion of the appointment of a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology to Nottingham University (1970), letters and tributes received on his retirement (1972), and a draft transcript of speech on the award of the Eardley Holland Gold Medal (1975).
