Records relating to Professor Jeffcoate's tenure as Sims-Black Professor for 1958, including the letter of appointment from the RCOG and background to the professorship, arrangements for his trip to Canada and the Caribbean (May - June 1958), programmes, dinner menus and other memorabilia from his visit, the programme for the 2nd World Congress of the International Federation of Gynaecology and Obstetrics, newspaper cuttings, and a summary of his tour presented to RCOG Council (September 1958) with impressions of the state of practice of obstetrics, gynaecology and medical education in the countries visited. Also included with the papers are two manuscript diaries kept by Jeffcoate during his trip, providing detailed notes of his visit, social events, impressions of medical conditions and peers, the lectures given by him to medical students and attended by him at conferences, politics of the medical establishments in Canada and their impressions of the College in England, sketches of hospitals visited and equipment such as baby trolleys, and points to feed back to RCOG Council.
