After the Restoration, a fund of £60,000, supplemented by a tax on office-holders, was set up, to be distributed among such truly loyal and indigent officers who have had real command of soldiers according to their several commissions and who have never deserted his Majesty during the late times of rebellion and usurpation, and have not a sufficient livelyhood of their own . The list is arranged by regiment, troop or company, and gives the county from which the claimant's petition came: the original printed version contains over 5,000 names, and is indexed.
