This collection comprises minutes, reports and correspondence of the following standing committees of the Royal College of Midwives (formally known as the Midwives Institute) (1903-1971):

  • RCM/C1 - Executive Council and Club Committee (1903-1930)
  • RCM/C2 - Executive Committee (Affiliated Associations) (1910-1932)
  • RCM/C3 - Benevolent Fund Committee (1914-1999)
  • RCM/C4 - Executive Committee (General Purposes) (1931-1949)
  • RCM/C5 - Editorial Committee (1942-1954)
  • RCM/C6 - Education Committee (1944-1950)
  • RCM/C7 - Library Committee (1945-1954)
  • RCM/C8 - International Relations Committee (1946-1950)
  • RCM/C9 - Honorary Officers Meetings (1952-1971)
  • RCM/C10 - Overseas Committee (1955-1962)

Administrative / Biographical History

The standing committees of the Royal College of Midwives (formally known as the Midwives Institute) are appointed to support the formulation of policy and executive decisions made by the Council, which are then implemented by staff at the headquarters.

Arrangement

The original order of material is retained, although where this is not possible the arrangement of files has been based on the functions and activities of the organisation as well as chronology, subject and the needs of users.

Access Information

Permission is required for external access to records less than twenty years old. Also restrictions apply if material includes personal information of living individuals. All other records are open to research by appointment, Monday to Friday, 10am to 4pm. There is no record of the source or date of acquisition before this material was deposited under the terms of a collection care agreement at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in May 2011.
