Administrative / Biographical History
When the treasurership of York, together with the prebends of Wilton and Newthorpe, were surrendered into the king's hands in 1547, the peculiar courts of Acomb, Alne and Tollerton and Bishop Wilton came into the possession of the lay proprietors. In this sub sub fond there are occasional documents which, strictly speaking, belong to the still-extant jurisdiction of the treasurer, but for the sake of convenience they have been kept with the post-1547 records of the individual peculiar courts.
