Scope and Content

Original black and white, pen and ink drawing by Pauline Baynes, signed in pencil by the artist. The illustration appears to be a decorative border intended to run across a double-page spread, but it is not clear which book or publication it was produced for. Pencil annotations on the front of the illustration state 'p. 140-141' and indicate that the illustration was to be cut in two down the centre. Pencil annotations on the reverse of the illustration state '2 prints on metal sep. in centre'. The figure '?30' is also written on the reverse of the illustration.

There is no indication of when or how this illustration was used in 'Books For Your Children', if indeed it was every used by the magazine.
