The Taming of the Shrew at the Adelphi Theatre, Nov 1904

Scope and Content

Sketches of characters and characters in settings in graphite, ink and watercolour on 21 sheets of paper, inscribed in graphite and ink with ms notes of colours and settings, one referring to 'Petruchio's cloak' and 'Shrew dress'. Nine watercolours on cartridge paper are mounted onto sheets without notes. The watercolours seem to be Hockley's 'finished' drawings, the pinholes in the top corners indicating that they had been pinned up. With an original folder inscribed in pencil by Hockley: 'The Shrew'.
