Mortgages, family settlements and wills, 1840-1894. After inheriting the estate on the death of his father the Rev. Fleming Gough in 1839, Richard Douglas Gough contracted several mortgages as a means of repaying his debts. After his death in 1886, his son Fleming Gough inherited the estate and consolidated the various debts.
