Administrative / Biographical History

Radio Mumbles, Mumbles Community Radio was a short lived internet community radio service (2009 - 2014) set up by Clive Saddington and recruited volunteers. The studio was originally at the Mumbles Development Office at 4 Dunns Lane, then, after a brief stay at Oystermouth Library, it moved in March 2011 to accommodation above the Co-operative Store on Mumbles Road.

Clive Saddington began broadcasting in 1969 for Radio City, the Swansea Hospital Radio Service, and worked as a DJ in many clubs around Swansea. He was taken on by Swansea Sound 1976-1978, followed by short spells at Radio Orwell (Ipswich) and Beacon Radio (Wolverhampton) before returning to Swansea Sound 1981-1993. He worked for Radio Tycoed 2006-2009. In 2009 he set up Radio Mumbles community radio. He retired in 2015.

Recording of an oral history interview by an unidentified interviewer with Harry Libby, at his home in Mumbles, when he was in his 70s. This is a look back into the history of Mumbles, its lifeboat, with reference to the 1884 lifeboat disaster and the poem by Clement Scott. Originally on reel-to-reel tape, later transferred to cassette, then digitised in MP3 format.T 38/1a

This short interview was made at Ivy Place (Swansea High Street Station) on the occasion of the unveiling of a blue plaque on 27 April 2013 in honour of Pete Ham (it would have been his birthday) and other members of the group.T 38/10
