Scope and Content

This sub sub sub fonds is divided into 2 series as follows:

  • Binding fragments, 12th-18th century [BF]
  • Music, including music fragments found in bindings, and other manuscripts deposited with the Borthwick Institute, c late 14th century - late 18th century. [MUSIC]

Administrative / Biographical History

The binding fragments at the Borthwick Institute were discovered in the binding of court books and registers when they were undergoing repair & rebinding. More substantial fragments of music (although still incomplete) have also been found in the bindings of court books.
