Administrative / Biographical History
John Magoveny King was born in 1918, and following his medical training, became a Member of the RCOG in October 1949. He started his long medical career in Northumberland as a locum at the Mona Taylor Maternity Hospital, Hepscott, in 1952, and in 1953 he was the first consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist to be appointed to the Northumberland Regional Hospital Board, covering Mona Taylor, Alnwick, Rothbury, Berwick, Morpeth, Blyth, Ashington and Preston Hospitals. He moved to the new maternity unit in Ashington in 1967, where he remained until his retirement in September 1982. He was elevated to Fellowship of the RCOG in May 1965.
