Scope and Content

Records of the Rhiwbach Slate quarries, 1858-1918. They include accounts of 'county sales', particulars of slate making, wharf accounts, 'bargain' books, slate inspector's book, day wagemen accounts, pay sheet deduction ledgers, time books, stores accounts, accident returns, price cards and miscellaneous papers.

Administrative / Biographical History

Rhiwbach Slate quarries was one of the smallest of the Ffestiniog workings in the county of Merionethshire.

The manager and part-proprietor of the Rhiwbach Quarries for the period 1890-1920 was Mr H. Humphreys. He was a keen and competent employer, always ready to adopt new schemes, and bent upon keeping fully abreast of the latest inventions designed to further slate-production.
