re Killarney's Cup which was won by a horse from Ireland called Killarney which was owned and ridden by Benny Taplin, who was an amateur jockey. In a race in 1875 or 1879 on the West Shore, Llandudno in the grounds of the now Golf Links Killarney beat the favourite, Lord Mostyn's horse. Benny was Beavan Searell's mother's brother, her maiden name was Taplin when she married William Llewelyn Searell. They called their houses in Victoria Street, Craig-y-Don and Meadow Gardens 'Benville' after Benny. Beavan's mother before she was married lived above Dunphy's store in Deganwy and rescued the cup from there when there was a fire.
