Correspondence sent to A. C. Hughes in response to his request for information on the capture of Mametz Wood (7-12 July 1916), which was placed in the North Wales local press (Holyhead and Anglesey Mail, Caernarvon and Denbigh Record, Rhyl Journal, Llandudno Advertiser, North Wales Weekly News etc). Hughes' request: "I am making a study of the capture of Mametz Wood by the 38th (Welsh) Division in July 1916, and would be most interested to hear from anyone who took part in the attack or who is in possession of papers relating to it. I am particularly anxious to hear from anyone who went into action with the 16th R. W. F. (North Wales) Battalion at 4.15 a.m. on 10 July 1916, but information about other battalions will, of course, be most welcome. A. C. Hughes, 39 The Uplands, Gerrards Cross, Bucks." A copy of the appeal is at 461/3.
