Administrative / Biographical History

The Prince of Wales Dry Dock Company, Swansea, Limited, was formed on 23 July 1897. In 1937 and 1943 respectively, the company acquired the Palmers (Swansea) Dry Dock Company Limited and the Port Talbot Dry Dock Company Limited as subsidiary companies thereby extending its business to Port Talbot. The Palmers company was liquidated in 1957. In June 1959 the Duke of Edinburgh Dry Dock in Swansea was opened enlarging the company’s facilities.
