Scope and Content

Documents chronicling activity at Holgate Windmill Preservation Society between 2020-2021, during early phases of the COVID-19 pandemic. These include a chronology of the Mill's history and a timeline documenting the pandemic's effect on operations, including the cancellation of 250th anniversary celebrations; first-person accounts and social media posts recording responses to the pandemic written by volunteers and supporters; and documentation depicting increased demand for the Mill's flour amid shortages.

The Holgate Windmill Preservation Society was formed in 2001 to restore, maintain and preserve the windmill for future generations. It is run entirely by volunteers.

Gifted to the Borthwick Institute in August 2021 by the Holgate Windmill Preservation Society.
