Scope and Content

The journal is the volume which stands between the books of prime entry and the ledger, and is used as an "arranger". All transactions of the same kind are grouped together and arranged in date order, and details are then "posted" to the ledger (the relevant page in the ledger being noted in the journal). The entries in the journal are more detailed than those in the ledger, and so are an extremely valuable for studying the economics of the firm.

Again, the journals are divided into those for Green & Hodgson and Hodgson & Robinson, and there are Account Current and Ranch journals.
