Administrative / Biographical History

A working party was established in May 1985 to look into the merger of Greater Midlands Co-operative Society and East Midlands Co-operative Society. The working party consisted of representatives from each society. Members meetings took place in July 1985 and the merger took effect on 7 September 1985. The new society was named Central Midlands Co-operative Society and the head office was moved to Lichfield.

In 1995 Central Midlands Co-operative Society merged with Leicestershire Co-operative Society to become Midlands Co-operative Society.
