Described as a "Caveat to the Commissioners of Patents, Washington", Gidney states he has devised a machine which can convert wood, straw and chaff into pulp, which can be used for paper (and with modification, animal feed). Gidney plans to apply for a patent and wants the Patent Office to file a caveat in the Patents office [a caveat was a preparatory document to a full patent application]. Says he has paid the fee of 20 dollars.
