Papers of the British film director, Sir Alan Parker (born 1944), covering his advertising, film and television careers.
Includes scripts, notes, casting, drawings, art work, production, posters, stills, marketing, cuttings, correspondence, publications and articles as well as merchandising. It also contains portrait photographs as well as material relating to Parker's other activities such as writing novels and stage direction.
Notes:
The original accession in 2000 from Alan Parker contained only material relating to 'Angela's Ashes', but later accessions (2014-2016) cover the whole of his working career. Although the majority of the collection was created during c. 1966-2003, there is some earlier original material which was acquired to use as props in films and later material relating to marketing, distribution, re-releases, merchandising, exhibition and events as well as research into Parker's work and career.
This collection is sometimes colloquially referred to by both the donors and the BFI as the 'Parkive'.
A selection of items from this collection were used in an exhibition held at the BFI Southbank, during 24 September to 25 October 2015, as part of a series of activities to commemorate the donation of the Alan Parker Collection to the BFI National Archive.
