Swansea Local Board of Health was established in 1850 under the terms of the Public Health Act, 1848, to oversee sanitation and public health within the Borough of Swansea. It continued to operate as a separate entity until 1872 when, under the terms of the Public Health Act, 1872, it was merged with the functions of the municipal borough of Swansea.
