Scope and Content

These records relate mainly to the recruitment of the Company's writers and civil servants, including their admission to, and training at, the East India College. The majority of the records consist of the papers of applicants seeking employment in the Company's overseas civil service, both before and after the establishment of East India College. These are arranged in two series : Writers' Petitions (1749-1805), and Committee of College References and Papers (1806-56). There are also Committee of College Minutes, Reports and Papers (1804-34), Court of Directors Proceedings (1804-21), and College Council Reports (1809-48).
