Kimberlin sat on the Colleges of Art and Technology Committee from 1947-1969. He then became Vice Chair of the City of Leicester Polytechnic Governors 1969-1971 and was the Chair 1971-1974. Kimberlin was awarded the OBE in 1958. He was elected Alderman in 1961 and was Mayor 1964-65.
