Administrative / Biographical History

Educating Archie was a BBC radio comedy series starring the ventriloquist Peter Brough and his doll Archie Andrews. At various times the supporting cast included Tony Hancock, Hattie Jacques, Beryl Reid, Max Bygraves and a young Julie Andrews. Plots revolved around Andrew's time at school, with actors playing various tutors and school friends of Andrew's.

Writers on the series included Eric Sykes, Sid Colin and Ronald Wolfe. The radio series ran from 1950 to 1959. A television version was made for ITV between 1958 and 1959.

Memorabilia collected here include autographs, a cigarette card, photographs, and a cardboard Archie Andrews doll. The collection also includes a membership certificate to the Archie Andrews Lollie Club, and a pamphlet on the art of ventriloquism.
