Administrative / Biographical History

Benjamin John Fletcher became the deputy of Leicester School of Art Principal Augustus Spencer in 1888. When Spencer left in 1900 Fletcher was made Head Master. In 1920 Fletcher accepted a position as Principal of the Birmingham School of Art. He retired in 1934 and moved to Sapperton in the Cotswolds, living in a cottage designed by Ernest Gimson. He died in September 1951 aged 83.
