Administrative / Biographical History

The Calland family of John Forbes Calland and his wife Harriet Ann settled in Swansea c.1850. They lived at Glyn-collen in the parish of Llangyfelach until c.1866 when the family moved to Somerset before settling in Hampshire. The Calland family were involved with the Birmingham and Coal Company and later the Birmingham Mining and Copper Company. Much of the correspondence is written to and from Samuel Bordell who appears to have been the company's agent.
