Administrative / Biographical History

These records were collected by John S. Davies of Ael-y-ban, Pontarddulais, former works manager of the Clayton Tin Plate Works, Pontarddulais. The Clayton Tin Plate Company was incorporated in 1883 and purchased the former Pontarddulais Tin Plate Works, which was renamed the Clayton Tin Plate Works. This was enlarged over subsequent years, and purchased in turn by Richard Thomas and Baldwins in c. 1936. The company was purchased by Richard Thomas and Baldwins Ltd, and closed in 1959. The site was occupied by industrial premises in the decades after the works closed, and has recently (2011) become a housing development.
