Scope and Content

The records in this section include scripts and copies of the readers' reports.

This sub-group contains material relating to the general scriptreading service that North West Playwrights offers to its members. Additional information relating to the reading of scripts for short-listing, for the workshops and award scheme, can be found in sub-groups NWP 3 and NWP 4.

Administrative / Biographical History

The scriptreading service operates as a rolling programme. In the years of the summer workshops however, there was a deadline each year for scripts whose authors wished to be considered. All scripts submitted are read by two readers who submit two reports. One report is sent to the writer, the other to the committee responsible for short-listing the plays for workshops. Readers are not given the names of the authors whose work they are reading, and authors are not given the names of the readers. Most scripts are returned to the author and only a fraction of those handled each year have therefore found their way into the archive.
