Recordings made by W. B. Curran of interviews between himself and George Tucker of Horton

George Tucker was born in 1894, the son of David Tucker, a builder from Horton. He worked variously as a farm hand in Overton, a quarryman, and was also a Methodist lay preacher. An articulate interviewee, he speaks with a Gower accent, frequently lapsing into the Gower dialect when telling stories of people and events early in his life. The date of these recordings is uncertain, but from comments by George Tucker in one to the effect that he was nearly 90, they were probably recorded in the early 1980s.

The interviewer was W. B.("Bill") Curran, a BBC Radio Wales broadcaster, but who also did freelance work, and continued to give lectures on local history in his later years.

The original recordings are on a series of 5 inch reel-to-reel tapes, although given the fact that some of them overlap, it is probable that these are copies from a master tape. The sound quality varies - most are clear and with only a small amount of tape noise, but some lack top-end frequencies and sound muffled. They were digitised in 2013 and indexed in the same year.
